JOHN FRASER's mixed-media collages have a strength of geometry, a subtlety of color and an exquisitness of balance. Some incorporate the spine and/or covers of books while others may include antique found objects, especially those that reference measurement. Fraser uses a variety of different instruments such as architects' rules, geometric devices or old rulers.
The artist's works of carefully constructed wood worked with acrylic, wax and at times wood putty are the result of a meditative practice where formal and material concerns are integrated. Often old, found wooden objects are transformed from their original utilitarian purposes into abstract sculpture, and more significantly, into art. |
