David Munson

Viewing David Munson's sculptures is like seeing the exterior and interior of a building in the same instant. Munson, a retired architect who worked at Harry Weese Associates for most of his career, was design principal at the firm. He attributes his sculptural focus to a statement made by Weese:

"The structure of things is often times more interesting before it gets covered up by the skin."

Following this precept after retiring, the architect-turned-sculptor fulfilled his dream by creating pieces with exposed forms and geometrical shapes. His use of cable, wire, Finnish wood and clear plastic reflect his interest in Constructivism. At times he stains the wood with aniline dyes. His pieces may be wall-hanging or free-standing.
